Foxtail Flip Wind Clips - The Top Tier Velcro Replacement for Downspout Hinge Systems
Why Wind Clips Are the Simple Fix for Hinged Downspout Extensions
If you live in a windy area, you’ve probably struggled with hinged downspout extensions falling or blowing out of place. Most people use awkward straps, worn-out Velcro, or makeshift solutions that don’t last.
That’s exactly why we make Foxtail Flip Wind Clips—a simple, durable way to keep downspout extensions locked in place when you want them there, and easy to release when you don’t.
What Is a Wind Clip?
A wind clip is a two-piece metal clasp system designed to retain hinged extensions in the upright position. Wind clips come standard with the Foxtail Flip hinges or can be purchased separately. Users often use them to replace Velcro straps, plastic clips, and other temporary solutions with a cleaner, more permanent option.
They’re especially useful for:
Windy locations
Long downspout extensions
Hinged extensions that need to stay up when not in use
Easy Installation

Wind Clips Installation Instructions
Wind clips are designed to be installed quickly with basic tools:
Attach the male clasp
Screw the male portion directly onto the downspout extension.Prepare the female clasp
Slightly open the female clasp just enough to fit your drill or driver tip inside.Mount the female clasp
Screw it onto the vertical section of the downspout, aligned so the extension locks in naturally. Flipping the extension up and marking it with a pencil is a great way to help pinpoint where the female clasp should be mounted on the vertical downspout.Fine-tune the fit
Pinch the female clasp tighter so the male fits snugly inside.
If the clip ever loosens over time, there’s no replacement needed—just pinch the female clasp tighter and it’s secure again.
A Better Alternative to Velcro
Some hinged downspout extensions rely on Velcro to stay in the up position. While Velcro works temporarily, it can:
Wear out and lose grip over time
Collect dirt and debris
Fade back to white if it was painted to match
One of the functions of wind clips is a direct metal replacement for Velcro, offering:
Longer life
Doesn’t catch dirt and debris
A cleaner appearance and potentially color-matched
Good Option for Windy Areas
Wind clips are designed specifically to perform in environments where:
Extensions blow loose frequently
Hinged extensions won’t stay upright
Once installed, they hold extensions securely until you intentionally release them.
Wind Clip Colors
Wind clips are made from painted steel to provide the necessary memory retention for repeated use. Full color matching is not available across all options; black wind clips are typically recommended with less common downspout colors. Refer to the color chart to see the specific wind clip color options.
Proudly Made in the USA
Foxtail Flip wind clips are made by the same team that installs gutters and gutter covers every day. When not in the field, the team is fabricating products in-house.
Materials are sourced locally and are cut, stamped, and finished in the USA.
It’s a local process that supports American manufacturing and puts money back into the domestic economy.
A Small Part That Solves a Big Problem
Wind clips may be simple, but they solve one of the most common downspout complaints: downspout extensions that won’t stay put.
Whether you’re a homeowner looking for a permanent fix or a contractor wanting a better alternative to Velcro. Wind clips are a clean, durable solution that works.
